The Condition of the Ummah - Part 6

When Every Voice Is Loud, Etiquette Becomes Silent

There is a reality we can no longer ignore: social media has amplified voices that were once kept behind closed doors. Some of these voices are sincere, some are misinformed, and some are simply loud. What troubles me most is not the ignorance of Islamophobes or those who deliberately stir hate—that noise has always existed. What concerns me more is how Muslims ourselves have begun to sound in these digital spaces.

Open any platform and you’ll see it. Posts filled with emotion but empty of etiquette. Arguments sparked in the name of defending Islam but fuelled more by ego than knowledge. It reminds me that social media does not create our character; it only magnifies what is already there. Even the quietest, most introverted person becomes bold when protected by a screen.

And while it is understandable that not every Muslim will have deep Islamic knowledge, the basics should never be missing. At the heart of these basics lies tarbiya—the process of nurturing, disciplining, and refining oneself. Knowledge may take years to acquire, but etiquette is something every believer is responsible for from day one.

Tarbiya teaches us how to speak, how to listen, how to respond, and even how to remain silent. It shapes the emotional and spiritual connection we build with Allah and with people. When you look at the five pillars of Islam, each one is built on discipline. Prayer, fasting, zakah, pilgrimage—all require consistency, humility, and self-control. These qualities should naturally reflect in how we behave online.

The foundation of everything is the declaration of faith and the commitment to follow Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. His character was marked by calmness, dignity, and compassion—even when facing hostility. If we truly implemented even a fraction of his discipline, we would strengthen ourselves personally and uplift our communities globally.

And right now, the world needs that strength. Palestine, Sudan, Congo—these crises demand clarity, unity, and integrity from us, not chaotic public debates. This is not the time for Muslims to be found wanting in knowledge or behaviour.

So, the real question becomes: are we ready to unlearn the bad habits social media has normalised and return to the prophetic example that once shaped the greatest generation? His companions were the best of followers and the best of examples for us. And that is where our success begins.

The Condition of the Ummah - Part 5

Living the Truth of Islam in an Age of Noise

There is no shortage of negative voices speaking about Islam today. We live in a world where deception often presents itself as truth, and where the media amplifies whatever narrative suits it. As a result, Islamophobia is not an accident—it is nurtured. Whether one is committed in worship or Muslim in name only, simply being Muslim is sometimes enough to be labelled an enemy.

Yet the heart of our identity remains the kalimah: Laa ilaha illallah Muhammadur Rasoolullah ﷺ. There is no deity worthy of worship except Allah, and Muhammad ﷺ is His final messenger. This truth alone unsettles those who prefer falsehood. Even in our current state of weakness, the ummah evokes fear. Allah reminds us in Surah al-Baqarah (2:217) that they will not stop trying to turn believers away from their faith. Strength or weakness does not change this reality.

Some believe that being a “moderate” Muslim makes them more acceptable. But the Qur’an teaches that their dissatisfaction lies not in our expression of faith, but in faith itself. The real lesson is not merely that opposition exists—it is that Muslims have not done enough to show the beauty of Islam. Instead, we have slowly absorbed the lifestyles around us, turning away from the values that once defined us.

Prayer, charity, fasting, pilgrimage, and modesty are now treated with suspicion, as though devotion is extremism. Yet these practices are the foundations of kindness, justice, community, and inner peace. Their purpose is to connect us to Allah while uplifting society. Still, there will always be people who oppose goodness simply because it exposes their deception.

The Qur’an speaks of such people: When they are told, “Do not spread corruption in the land,” they reply, “We are only peacemakers!” Indeed, it is they who are the corruptors… (2:11–12). We have seen this pattern repeated—those who stoke conflict often blame Muslims for the fires they themselves ignite. Media bias reinforces these narratives, shaping public perception long before truth emerges.

But Islam remains a religion of peace. Peace does not mean silence in the face of injustice; it requires a foundation of fairness and truth. Only those who fear justice will fear Islam.

Some non-Muslims who read Qur’an selectively and out of context, will learn, through experience, the beauty and peace of Islam. For that to happen, does require that Muslims rise up to fulfil their responsibility. Just a cursory glance at the world, and the suffering in Palestine and Sudan, as examples, shows that Muslims have not fulfilled their responsibility.

Hatred toward Islam will not vanish simply because we wish to be accepted. But Allah’s help is near. To benefit from it, we must return to Him—repenting, learning, and living according to His guidance. When Muslims embody the message of Islam, truth becomes clearer than any propaganda.

Islam is peace, and peace begins with us.

The Condition of the Ummah - Part 2

When you read the Qur’an, have you ever paused to reflect on its perfection? Every verse flows without error, for it is the word of the One who is perfect—Allah. This is Allah who created us and sent us guidance. He it is who created us, informing the angels of our role on earth when He said (interpretation of the meaning):

˹Remember˺ when your Lord said to the angels, “I am going to place a successive ˹human˺ authority on earth.” They asked ˹Allah˺, “Will You place in it someone who will spread corruption there and shed blood while we glorify Your praises and sanctify You?” Allah responded, “I know what you do not know.” [Quran 2:30]

This then is our role that we must implement the laws of Allah and establish His authority. This role is to call to good and to forbid the evil. The knowledge of what is right and wrong comes from the Qur’an and Sunnah, and every Muslim is required to live by that standard. The implementation is dependent on that knowledge. Knowledge, however, is not enough. What gives it life is sincerity—because actions are judged by intentions. When the heart is sincere, Allah opens the path to good. The fruits of your intention will certainly be exposed and will weigh heavily for you or against you. You are responsible for your flock, your household, and therein lies a test whether you are Allah-conscious or wavering on that front. The same measure applies to leaders and rulers.

You and your household must incline to Allah and ward off outside influences to do otherwise. Likewise, those in positions of authority must protect their people from harm and injustice. With the Qur’an and Sunnah in their care, they are entrusted to uphold fairness, defend rights, and preserve the freedom to worship Allah. They should be the protectors of the rights and freedoms of people just as you are responsible for the wellbeing of your family. These are matters that cannot be outsourced or ignored.

In conclusion: man was created to implement the authority of Allah on earth, and Muslims bear that responsibility because we submit to His laws. Falling short in protecting our families—or, on a broader scale, the Ummah—is a failure of duty. It reflects a weakness in sincerity and consciousness of Allah. Is it not time to renew our intentions, strengthen our faith, and act upon what we know to be true? If we begin with sincerity in our homes and hearts, imagine the impact on our communities, and on the oppressed people of Palestine. True change begins when we live by the guidance of Allah.

The Help of Allah is near - Part 7

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warned that the thing he fears for his ummah is that the riches of the world will open to them, they will compete for it and it will destroy them.

Amr ibn Awf reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “By Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you, but rather I fear you will be given the wealth of the world, just as it was given to those before you. You will compete for it just as they competed for it, and it will ruin you just as it ruined them.” [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī and Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim]

Is it not true that many Muslim nations, blessed with wealth, still struggle to uplift their people? Is it not true that Muslims, in general, have inclined to the comforts of this world, showing greater inclination to competing than to uplift?

It is easy to point fingers at wealthy Arab nations and ask, ‘Why are our brothers and sisters in Gaza still starving when feeding the hungry is among the best of deeds?’ Yet, we must also look inward. What about our own communities? Have we truly done enough to lift the burdens around us? In Cape Town, as an example, crime is high. Perhaps, the gang wars are rather dangerous. But how is it that we do not do enough crime prevention in our communities in general? How is it that businesses do not forge a plan to protect themselves and their customers? What if Muslim business leaders in Cape Town united for safety initiatives? Wouldn’t that be a small reflection of the unity we call for regarding Palestine? Have we forgotten the reason and purpose of creation? Is it merely to traverse the earth and accumulate wealth that is temporary anyway?

The reason for alluding to this local problem while the focus is still Palestine and Aqsa, is that there is a pattern in the behaviour of the Muslims. We have become weak or maybe careless. How much of our principles have we forsaken so that we may earn that extra dollar or hold onto a position of relative power or status? Just like we let the robber steal from our neighbour in broad daylight, the Zionist warplanes cross over our airspace to bomb a neighbouring country. Our strength has never been in copying foreign ideologies. It has always been in holding firmly to the Qur’an and Sunnah. That’s where our true dignity lies. Qatar was dealt a blow by the Zionist bombing. The Palestinians gained a victory. Yet, the response to being attacked will be telling as to our reliance upon Allah. Will we, the Muslim ummah, be the recipients of Allah’s pleasure or will we be questioned for our apathy?

Muslims have a duty to command with good and to prevent the evil. It is not merely policy but needs action. Had we that strong inclination to be the “khalifah” as Allah described us to the angels, we will act in the ideal manner to bring betterment to society and the world at large.

The help of Allah is near. Call on Him sincerely!

End Game - Part 1

 Stranglehold

Ignorance is often considered the best way to stay out of trouble or to plead innocence. Yet ignorance is just a means to avoid the truth. People gossip and readily take on that responsibility as if that is a minor sin. That already proves their ignorance about the laws of Allah, the ignorance of what it takes to do good. Of course, humans falter, but being ignorant will result in you not repenting. However much you think you remain ignorant, satan will abuse even that situation and cause you to slip further into sin. Whether it is the end of the world or your death, it will happen and it will happen soon. You have to prepare for both because, death will come, and the Day of reckoning will come.

The first sin committed by mankind resulted from the whisper of satan. Thus, know well that satan is ever whispering, be it the human satan or the one from jinn-kind. Mainstream media show images and whisper commentary, and it fills your mind while you are not sure whether or not to use a filter. And then it is what quality of filter do you have. Be educated on what the best of guides and teachers brought to us. That teacher, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ brought revelation from Allah. He taught us about a time like this. He also said that the best of places are the masajid and the worst of places are the markets.

“The most beloved of places to Allah are the mosques, and the most hated of places to Allah are the markets.”  - Sahih Muslim

Is this because Allah is remembered much in the places of worship and not so in the markets? What is your focus in the market? Consider your own position.

The Jews are preparing for the antichrist. How much do you know about the antichrist? Have you been dumbed down by the movie industry to imagine just another sci-fi horror movie? How much has that helped you and how much will it help you going forward. Ignorance is the void that satan will fill for you unless you make a concerted effort to learn and gain knowledge on the correctness of worship in its complete form. You should equip yourself with beneficial knowledge, starting, as Allah starts Quran, with the knowledge about Allah. There are many capable teachers. Your sincerity will guide you to the truth.

In this age of mass deception, a good starting point is to understand what the antichrist is about and then work back, from his prophesised time of appearance to now. How long will it be before his appearance? As for what is happening globally and more specifically in the Middle East, the arrogance of the Zionists is growing by the day. To this end, it is appropriate to raise again the issue of ad-Dajjal and share some information on him (in the next post). Always seek the Protection of Allah against the trial of dajjal for it will be a heavy test. And remember, when that time comes, it will not be a movie. Therefore, you must already be alert,

Fallen: Hope or Fear

In a distant land, where the echoes of chaos drown out the whispers of hope, a sorrowful reality unfurls. Iraq has fallen; Syria lies ravaged; Egypt seems poised to follow suit. Each piece of news feels like another brick in a crumbling edifice, as confusion and despair reign. In such tumultuous times, one can’t help but ponder: what is the position of the believer?

Amid the chaos, perspectives diverge wildly. Some view the unfolding catastrophe through an eschatological lens, seeing it as the indication of a prophesied end; others attempt to make sense of the chaos with simply what’s visible before them. Yet, the most palpable truth in this disarray is the climate of fear that engulfs us all. We hope, that as per Shari'ah, that the current powers in Syria, rooted in a fervent faith, would safeguard minorities and uphold justice. However, time reveals unforeseen agendas, leading us not ignore the specter of a greater Israel looming over the region, a development that calls into question the very fabric of our shared humanity. Still, through the anxiety, we hold onto Allah, for in Him, we seek our refuge.

In these times, we ponder the dire prophecy that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ spoke of—the vulnerability of the ummah, despite its vast numbers. Muslims are beckoned toward unity, the singularity of brotherhood, rather than the strained duality that has crept into our lives. Too many have adopted foreign ways, drifting from the purity of our teachings to embrace lifestyles that do not serve us. The foundation of our belief—the Kalimah, “La ilaha illallah, Muhammadur Rasulullah”—is not just a phrase recited; it’s the essence of our belief. It is our unwavering allegiance, the anchor in stormy seas. In every struggle, we must hold onto our iman, the light shining through the shadows of tyranny and oppression.

But what can be done? The enormity of the situation can feel suffocating. The pulpits of Muslims echo the turmoil we face, reflecting the fractured state of our ummah, save for a handful of voices striving to guide us. Political Islam has, in many ways, been overshadowed, confused with religious ideologies. The roots of our Kalimah are shallow in many hearts, leading to disarray in our understanding of faith and politics. While it’s easy to lament the faltering of Muslim world leaders, dwelling on these issues without action is futile. Endless rhetoric serves no purpose; we must rectify ourselves, renew our commitment to our shahadah.

As we gaze upon the battlefield of life, we can’t help but see the weaknesses that permeate, not just in leadership but within our families and communities. We are called to rise, not as spectators but as standard-bearers of Islam, becoming beacons of light and unity in a world shrouded in darkness. The essence of our existence lies in our unwavering commitment to faith, our solidarity with one another, and our relentless pursuit of justice and truth.

As the sun sets on the horizon of despair, let us emerge not as fragmented souls but as a unified ummah, ready to confront the challenges of our time, armed with the conviction of our beliefs and the strength of our brotherhood. Together, we can rise above the chaos and reclaim our rightful place, finding solace and strength in our shared identity – There is no deity worthy of worship but Allah, Muhammad ﷺ is His messenger

Early Hours

The stillness of the morning is only broken by the shuffling of the feet of a few people as they head to the Grand Mosque, Masjid-al-Haram. It is in the wee hours of the morning, more than three hours before sunrise. These are the people worshipping Allah in the middle of the night, hoping for His Mercy and forgiveness, while the majority of the people are asleep.

There are lessons and signs in everything. Some you may understand and some seem too simple to even contain any sign. But in the example and a very real daily occurrence, few are up at those early hours of the morning, praying. Does it not appear to be the case with those being unawares, as if asleep, to what is transpiring in the world? People walk around in a daze. Few are awake and tuned in to the realities. Admittedly, life can get confusing, except for those who at least understand the basics. You are not required to know everything, but you need to have a foundation. Of the questions that will give you some clue that you understand a little, is whether you know what will be your means to enter paradise. It is something on which to always reflect. Thousands of people throng to the Haram (Grand mosque) for Fajr and it is packed, resulting in overflow outside the Haram. After prayers is a good time to reflect as the crowds disperse except for the handful that remain. Sitting there, reflecting and engaging further in the remembrance of Allah. There is certainly much reward in doing this, especially, that after sunrise, you offer two units of prayer. The religion, nay the Deen, of Islam is easy, filled with much beauty and abundance of reward. Ah, yes, in focusing on the few, it is indeed only a few are truly grateful to Allah. It is not that those who leave early are not grateful to Allah, but it the numbers are mere reminders.

In doing good, your intention is always “for the sake of Allah”. Then what about your sins or those meaningless acts that are overwhelming part of your day and life. It is in the transformation of your life that you should gain understanding and steadfastness. What will determine your entry into paradise? If you were in a class(room) and you always want to get the attention of the teacher, what do you do? At home, if you want the attention of your parents or spouse, what do you do? Then what about seeking the love of Allah?

Now, many people are going for umrah where, in-sha-Allah, they will benefit from being in the precinct of the Haramain. For the rest, people are distracted by events and festivities away from the remembrance of Allah.  Few are grateful.

In death, there is life

In death, there is life. Sometimes it takes a while to extract all the benefits of a statement, however small the statement may be.

Recently, I dreamt of an acquaintance of mine accepting Islam. I don’t know the reason why she accepted Islam – albeit a dream. Yet the ongoing genocide in Gaza has been the reason why many thousands of people, all over the world, have accepted Islam in recent months. Islam is a simple, yet comprehensive religion. At the core of the religion is faith. It is the religion and the faith practised and taught by all the prophets from Adam to Abraham to Moses to Jesus to Muhammad (peace be upon them all). The credo that there is only One God, Allah. This is what the people of Gaza die upon. This is upon which they withstand the occupiers. Right now, Islam is spreading like wildfire throughout Europe, as an example. Muslims have no need to lie about the beliefs of others, because these people will confess to what is said about them and their beliefs. The same cannot be said of those who feel threatened by Islam and Muslims, making up lies about Islam and Muslims. And those who feel threatened by Muslims, for the most part, are ignorant of Islam and have fallen prey to the lies spewed by some non-Muslims. This is not the forum to be absolutely specific about the lies being spread, but you are welcome to arrange a forum for us to discuss further.

While many people are flocking to Islam, Muslims born into Islam need to reflect at the character of the people of Gaza and the many thousands that have recently entered into Islam. Islam starts with belief, and it is upon which you and I, as Muslims, should die. You and I have not yet been tested with our belief, yet for many that belief is already wavering. Consider whether those entering Islam in their hordes are replacing some of us or whether we will be blessed with a good ending, i.e. that we die in complete faith, upholding Quran and Sunnah, that our faith is never in question, by the Grace and Mercy of Allah, neither did we distort the religion in any way. In death there is life, for an eternal life of bliss is awaiting the believer in paradise and martyrdom deserves nothing else but paradise.

See this example

The greatest gift that a person can receive is the gift of faith (eemaan). And by faith it is meant “the belief in Allah and that Muhammad ﷺ is the final messenger (and Prophet) of Allah”. It also means to disbelieve any object, person or deity as being worthy of worship. Of the greatest exemplaries of true faith is none other than Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) – peace be upon him. It is he who was instructed to call people to the hajj (pilgrimage) and Muslims still carry out this ritual to this day.

This is an example of what confirms Islam as the true religion. Muslims are far from perfect and, in their non-adherence to the pristine teachings of Islam, are not always good examples of Islam. However, what is true is that faith is about your belief in Allah and, in striving to overcome your shortcomings, have hope in the Mercy of Allah. A single man, Abraham – peace be upon him – called people to the pilgrimage and every year, about three million Muslims, from all over the world, descend on Makkah to perform the pilgrimage while two billion Muslims look on and, for most, have the desire to also perform the pilgrimage soon. This is reason enough to be grateful, but time and space can never do justice to list everything for which you should be grateful. Christians and Jews too accept Ibrahim – peace be upon him – but it is Muslims who follow him for he was neither a Jew nor a Christian but was one who submitted to Allah, i.e. one who submits to Allah is a Muslim. How then can any Muslim be anti-semitic when we are so strongly attached to Prophet Ibrahim – peace be upon him – that his way is our way. The pilgrimage is at the same time of the sacrifice of the ram in the place of Ismail. All this is an indication of how grateful we should be to be Muslim. The Palestinians have demonstrated their faith, living it and we are all witness to it. While we may not want to be in such a situation, imagine the level of their faith versus ours. But our tests are coming. South Africans have been deceived in believing good will come from the case before the ICJ. The case is likely to have challenges and perhaps fall flat as there is regime change in South Africa. It is not always possible to see every deception or to see the link between two points of deception. But it is easier when standing for the truth, you will be separated from those who believe in being colourful with the truth in their deceptive manner.

If truth be told, then the sacrifice of animals, mostly sheep, carries a profound lesson. For you to stand with truth, you have to slaughter the sheeple in you, i.e. the blind following and acceptance of government, political leaders, and people of dubious character. The same people that brought you the genocide, likely has a hand in every country in the world, include South Africa. The same people bring you scams and makes you believe that they have your best interest at heart. Don’t worry about conspiracy theories, concern yourself about the truth. The truth will reveal the conspiracies. And Prophet Ibrahim – peace be upon him – is such a great example.

Headlines

History becomes stories, the details of which are lost to most. Can you focus on the outcome only, as fact, when headlines are written, often out of sync with the detail? Is it true that it should not concern everyone but those who are scholars and seekers of knowledge?

You can speak October 07th as fact while the weighty detail behind it is ignored. You look at the masses, the general populace, and it is not uncommon for them to be ignorant (or deficient in knowledge or even information) on most matters. It is then up to the scholars and the learned to step up and fill the void by educating as is necessary. Truth, though, is key. Throughout history you will see many capitulating before the ruler of the day, except a few. Gold, money and wealth were always generously distributed so that silence on truth was bought, betrayal became the norm, and even advocating misguidance found its place in the sun. Today, the one thing that keeps Muslims together is the kalimat-ush-shahadah (the testimony of faith). Sadly, the cry of the babies, the screams of a woman being violated, and a people starved, go unanswered by those who rule over us. It is better to pray for your rulers (in Muslim lands) to be guided than to pray against them for what may follow may be worse. A good ruler will care for his people and there will be peace and security. Throughout Islamic history there were attempts to break the Muslims through ending the khilafah (caliphate)and bringing innovations and misguidance into the religion. Eventually the khilafah came to an end just over one hundred years ago because of betrayal. This word, betrayal, is like a headline and the detail need to be understood for proper context. As for innovations and misguidance, then that happened over the centuries, even at the time of the earlier generations of Muslims. The attempt to weaken the ummah (the followers of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ) is a never-ending story but, ultimately, there will always be a group of people holding onto the truth. The people of Palestine are shining examples of a people resisting oppression and dying as martyrs. As for us, Allah advises us in Quran that we have to change ourselves before Allah changes our conditions. And what must we change?

Muslims have become people of mere speech while, if there is speech to which you should be attached, then it is Quran and Sunnah. There is no better speech than the speech of Allah and the and the best of the guidance is the guidance given by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Is it then possible for Muslims to find themselves in a wilderness while they have Quran and Sunnah? There has been much propaganda and misinformation regarding October 7th and yet there is so much that came before it. (You may also want to read

 https://capemuslimspeak.blogspot.com/2024/02/wars-and-scores.html).

As for your understanding of Islam and your approach to life, then again you have to go back to the beginning and not focus only on what the headlines are today.

The world is on the brink of massive change. Will it be good, or will it be bad? Good will only come with Islam. It will come, with or without you. The bad will come from those who have no God that they worship except evil itself. The choice you will make, consciously or otherwise, will determine whether you stand on the side of truth or not. Enough is it for you to blame the Arab leaders (and they are not blameless), but what is your contribution? Your silence is deafening. Your ignorance lamentable. Your complicity is notable.

Indelible Ink

Mind control. Most people don’t know what it really is which is likely why they end up being products of mind control. Imagine voting in an election and the elected officials are not accountable to you. It happens all the time, doesn’t it. There are memes about it, yet here you are, with a mark of indelible ink on your thumb after your recent vote in the South African national elections.

For Muslims, the Palestinian issue played a role in the elections. Or perhaps it did not. The openly Zionist party still had many Muslims voting for it. Their argument will be about service delivery and corruption while the very fact that there is a Zionist element in play, smacks of corruption (for those who understand). Shall we unpack this? Shall we talk about genocide and more? Of yeah, we can unpack this. This voter has been gulped up by the system, more than most. And in case you voted for another party because of the Palestinian issue, then please refer back to some of the memes like the wolf telling the sheep that after the election he will be a vegetarian. Also refer back to the fact that some are openly Zionist while others just play you. There are one or two parties who are more genuine but that the system will always dictate to them, means that their success will be limited, or they will be made to fail. Should you have voted or not? If you did vote, “why did you vote?” should at least have guided you for which party to vote. But alas, you were shortsighted and selfish when voted for the openly Zionist supporting party. That is the lowest rung on the ladder, if on the ladder at all. Others voted perhaps taking to the principle that to vote (in a democracy) is to protect the interests of the Muslims. However, that also had different levels beyond the genocide of the Palestinians. If Muslims, and South Africans in general, are worse off than before the election, then you would have wasted your vote. All this may point to the lack of unity in the Muslim community or, more so, a lack of proper understanding. This can be unpacked quite a bit, but it does point to you as being the starting point.

The system in which we live is not the system ordained by Allah. While returning to this, in full and as a community, is not an overnight process, it is in your own understanding and your way of life that you determine the direction in which you are going.  Should you not supplicate to Allah to be part of the solution and not to fall into the traps and false promises of those who are ruling over you. Neither to place rulers over us that will oppress us in any way.

All eyes on Rafah!

Resilience and Reversion

The blood of the martyr is never spilled in vain. The world is setup for catastrophe while paradise awaits the believers. This world is nothing but deception and the only certainty you have is that you will return to Allah.

The matter of the International Criminal Court (ICC) consideration for the arrests of Israelis and unfortunately, misguidedly, the arrests of three Palestinians is ongoing, but the former rejected by the USA. The calling on the Israelis for restraint by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) are not enforceable except if the UN security council enforces it. And who will veto any action against the occupying forces? So, the games continue. And it will until they believe they will get their planned outcome. The believers know that anybody and everybody can plan but Allah is the best of planners. From what is apparent, any resistance and victory for the Palestinians will only come from inside the occupied territory. There is no army mobilised and ready to intervene for the sake of justice. There can be no peace without justice. While there is growing discontent from the ordinary person, world leaders are seemingly ignoring these calls. As Muslims are in the season of hajj (pilgrimage), it reminds us of the hadith where Sayyidina Ayeshah (Allah be please with her) asked the Messenger, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, regarding jihad for women. His reply was that hajj is their jihad (their physical struggle in the path of Allah). Hajj must be a desire for every Muslim, male and female. Thus, the female is yearning to do jihad through her Hajj. What about the male?  When the desire for justice and peace is uppermost, then all measures are taken to assure that there is justice and peace throughout the land. Of course, you start with the self for you cannot call to goodness while you forget to apply it yourself.

Politics is such that one party will make a pact with another party at the expense of fairness and agreements that may be in place. It is not impossible for a party, e.g. African National Congress (ANC) who supports the Palestinians, to enter into an agreement or coalition with a party like the Democratic Alliance (DA) who supports Israel. The interests of these parties to rule and have power may outweigh all other considerations. Judging by demonstrations internationally, it is clear that there are countries in which the government and the people of the country are on opposite sides of peace and justice. For the most part alone, it is a sign that the people of Palestine are resilient, clinging to their faith, in the face of genocide while the world watches on. One clear positive is that the reversion (worldwide) to Islam continues and many have done so because of the faith of the Palestinians.

All eyes on Rafah

The Final Episode

It is now called the “Final Episode”. The last vestiges of the Gaza Strip are under attack while an agreement to a ceasefire is ignored. There is, however, at least traces of discord in the enemy ranks.

Indeed, the world is on the cusp of passing the test of humanity or be damned for its inability to act against genocide. The Muslim world and specifically the Arabs are bound by the Sykes-Picot agreement which created their kingdoms and fiefdoms. For now, no help will be coming from the Arabs. But as much as you wish to throw stones at these leaders, little is different in many parts of the world, even in Muslim-minority countries. You will see sloganeering, speeches and some marches in support of Palestine. Those non-Muslims that fear Muslims are wrong on so many fronts. Firstly, because the only fear a non-Muslim should have of a Muslim is that if the former is unjust that Muslims will demand justice. It is a myth that non-Muslims should fear Muslims otherwise. Sadly though, Muslims have, in effect, abdicated their responsibility, that responsibility to bring justice and peace to the world because they adhere to institutions like the United Nations. The United Nations has seen a genocide play out for the past 7 months (and more) and have not acted expeditiously. Some non-Muslims, specifically Christians, are not pro-Palestinian (an act of calling for justice) or not supportive of Muslims because they fear Shari’ah law. What is Shari’ah law that they fear? Is it that they fear the death penalty for murderers and rapists? Is it that they fear not having freedom of religion (atheists included – even they have freedom of religion) while the Quran clearly states that there is no compulsion in religion? These non-Muslims speak out of ignorance because Muslims have made little effort to explain it. Islam is the only religion that reveres Isho (Eesa or Jesus)- peace be upon him, but importantly does not deify him. As for what has now started in Rafah too, it is the final onslaught of what remains of Gaza. The displacement of people who have already been displaced from the other parts of Gaza, means that their only hope to stay in Palestine is to be buried there. They will be martyrs, but what about you and I? What will the world be like without the Gaza of the Palestinians? How will you continue to live normal lives? What is normal anyway? Will you continue to accept a system that has made the world mere spectators for, at least, the past 75 years? Will you continue an education system that teaches Darwinism and other ideologies other than Islam? The list goes on. Rafah should be the turning point.

The cracks in the enemy are showing. People are taking to the streets worldwide. The American campuses are alive to the humanitarian crisis and genocide and are opposing their government or rather imploring their government to act justly. People are accepting Islam purely because of the faith shown by the Palestinians. Governments are acting against their own people to quell this uprising. Locally, the Zionist influence on the South African elections (May 2024) will not go away. What are you doing?

The agreement currently on the table (as of two days ago) is acceptable to the Palestinians but the aggressor seems less interested. One way of contributing is to change something in your life, not just merely a day of fasting or a supplication, but repentance (by giving up something sinful) and/or by engaging in more good deeds. Commit to Quran and sunnah and avoid those practices which are newly invented matters.

Time for Hijrah

Do you think that the person who is willing to drop a bomb on you is capable of poisoning you? Is this likely to be a novel, a movie or indeed a true story?

Muslims had the golden age where they contributed so much to the world that the world truly owes them much gratitude. However, if you are really honest, then not full credit is being given to Muslims. I leave this statement there and those who are truly interested in completing that statement will seek more information. Fast forward to the dark ages, the “renaissance” and the onset of colonialism.  I want to say the result “was”, but, in fact, it “is”. The result is that Muslims have become enslaved, not to Allah, but to something called “taghut”. Yes, perhaps an overstatement in common terms, but likely not on a slighter deeper understanding of it. This is so widespread, that it is not examined to its real extent, but rather overlooked and/or dismissed. Once a khateeb (preacher) suggested that one of the major signs of end times being that “the sun will rise from the west” may be figurative in that perhaps it refers to the west being the providers of knowledge, in modern times. Now, you can leave this sign of end times as being literal rather than figurative but, is it even slightly true that knowledge is now emanating from the west? Ah yes, the colonial powers and the “superpower” does seem to be in the west. Jumping ahead, then the Muslim world (in general) is beholden to the west. Even those Muslims who might occupy important positions in science or politics, etc. are just a part of that set up. Today, the world is witnessing a genocide and many, especially the (ordinary) Muslims, are, in some way, showing opposition to it. Yet, it is as if life is compartmentalised such that the whole picture is not seen. Many place the blame on the USA but fail to understand who the powers are in the USA specifically. These same “powerful” people exert influence much further than the USA. However, concerning the genocide then understand it is one group to which much of the world, including Muslims, are beholden. Don’t look at who the leaders (by name) of these two countries who are complicit in genocide are, but look at the “leadership” more broadly. There is more than a common thread to what has been happening over the last few years and, of course, somewhat longer than that. How then do you fight a genocide while you almost voluntarily agree to a lockdown and take their poison. Do you not understand that all this is linked?

How do you expect victory or, rather to be party to a victory when you are conflicted? Victory will come, but who will share in it? It is time for hijrah (migration). No, long before a physical hijrah, a spiritual hijrah is necessary.

Whose Lie is it anyway?

Whose lie is it anyway. The lie will be perpetuated because the simple answer is “what can we do about it anyway” and a whole host of similar answers, none of which seeks to address the issue.
Muslims from South Africa were once again confronted with the disputed moonsighting issue. The relevance of this discussion is to point out that the overwhelming, if not basically everyone, have been captured and brainwashed. Indoctrination to the extent that even those striving for the truth cannot avoid themselves tainting the truth. For sure, I will be told that I should stay in my lane and leave this matter to the “Ulama” (scholars/learned). However, are you not allowed to ask for clarification or to be informed, educated and empowered with knowledge? Am I correct in saying that the geographical boundaries are man-made with the colonial past often having a bearing on it? Some questions that come to mind is whether the reliance on information from the astronomers influence the final outcome of moonsighting? Is that not somehow taking moon calculations into consideration which then opens the door for those who determine the start and end of a month by calculation? Is this not a case of being influenced by
“suggestion”? Are Muslims really divided such that two towns only a few kilometres apart don’t take the same verdict on the moonsighting, but one may take a verdict from a town more than 1000 kilometres away, just because they share the same geographical boundary. Yet these latter two towns have multiple, differing groups of Ulama, meaning that there is no accepted umbrella ulama body to which everyone subscribes and who has ultimate authority on religious matters in the country. Is this the unity you speak about? The problem is compounded when testimonies of moonsighting is accepted by one group and not another. There is no agreed upon authority to make a ruling, so what happens next?  There is the matter of unity but what exactly does it entail? Do man-made boundaries effectively solve the issue or is the issue bigger than that? Is a sighting from a neighbouring country void but that of a town, within your country, but a greater distance away from you, acceptable? Why is there a need for photographs of the sighting when a mere testimony, with witnesses, is required?
The moon issue is not going away in a hurry as you have seen for over the last forty years locally. How much importance should you attach to man-made boundaries? What defines the difference in region, is it language and culture? Does this apply to the general Muslim or is it the language (mother tongue) of the ulama. Does the difference in ruler play a role even though both rulers are non-Muslim or is it because two countries are Muslim minorities? The issue of testimonies not being accepted is now a recurring theme. Do Muslim moon-sighters incline to technology and trust it for guidance in this matter, and how much influence does it have over them? Is the moon issue your understanding of unity while you differ and even call out some of these learned people on other matters? There are so many more questions. Is rejected testimony a lie? The double-edged sword.
The matter must be discussed with the aim of learning and understanding. It must be discussed with the aim of developing as a community with ideal forums and structures. What impact has this issue had on you and in what are you keen to improve or see improvement?
