The Help of Allah is near - Part 6

We have previously mentioned that the new caliphate will be established in Jerusalem. While there is no exact known timeline for this, the latest threat from the Zionists in occupying Gaza, does not bode well for the region, meaning “will this hasten the implementation of the caliphate?”. Their approach is basically an all or nothing approach. The question that arises now is if it is even a possibility, and if it is one, then what is the probability. But before we get there (perhaps in the next post), to better understand the nature of divine justice, we can reflect on the story of Prophet Yousuf (AS).

The Quran dedicates an entire chapter to his story. In summary, the Qur'an mentions that his brothers plotted to kill him, but an inkling of humanity led them instead to throw him into a well — alive. The voice of humanity is causing a trickle of aid to get into Gaza. Their ill-feeling towards him caused them to plot to get rid of him. They threw him into the well in the hope that some traders might pick him up and take him to distant lands. This indeed happened. Now look at the Zionists: they would like to get rid of the Palestinians. They have killed many and would not mind that the survivors go to neighbouring countries. In Egypt, Yousuf (peace be upon him) is wrongly accused and ends up in prison. Are not the people of Palestine labelled as terrorists, wrongly, because they seek their freedom in their homeland? Are not the people of Gaza living in an open-air prison?  Eventually, though, Allah caused that he, Yousuf, rise in rank in Egypt. His brothers, initially unaware of his newfound status, were forced to come to him for aid. He granted them aid and forgave them for what the harm they inflicted on him. Will Allah perhaps likewise cause the people of Palestine to rise above their oppressors, forcing the perpetrators of this genocide to face justice?

The stories of the Qur'an are not mere history — they are timeless lessons for our lives today. This is not intended as a tafsir, and may Allah protect me from error, but as a reminder that Allah never abandons His servants. Just as He raised Yousuf (AS) from the depths of the well to a position of honour, He can raise the people of Palestine from their trials to victory and dignity. In the previous post we did mention the hadith relating to the people living in the precincts of Jerusalem.

And Allah knows Best

The Line in the sand - Part 6

Extremism, dogmatism, modernism, moderate are some of the many terms that can be applied to Muslims. There so many labels, all of which we will not necessarily explain, but we do need some clarity to avoid confusion and division.

This blog was always about bringing awareness that you may reflect. Seek knowledge from credible scholars. Today, we find everybody claims to follow Quran and Sunnah. That is the best news. Your teacher too will tell you to follow Quran and Sunnah, and that is what he teaches. However, what does it mean? Is it Quran and Sunnah in everything? What does sunnah mean? Ah yes, here we are interjected by Quranists who claim that they follow only Quran. Part of the infiltration of the enemies of Islam, orientalists have planted the seed for people, claiming to be Muslim to reject hadith. Therefore, learning about the history of Islam and the evolution of the legal system, even at a basic level, is important. As part of this point, the revelation of Quran and its preservation, as well as the preservation of hadith, will debunk any thought that that either or both can be rejected.

This note is not extensive, but merely to highlight certain issues like the misunderstanding of the Quranists on the subject of hadith. We merely touched on preservation, but there is much more to hadith than just the matter of preservation. The study of hadith is actually a science. Admittedly, this is what stumps many people who do not have any grounding in hadith. The matter is not helped by the ulama who are sometimes careless in the use of hadith. This attitude to hadith helps Quranists to dismiss hadith. Many-a-time, you hear the phrase “stay in your lane”. While I find this problematic generally, if applied here, then it is better for most people not to quote hadith. One reason is that it may indeed be a fabricated hadith and to quote that is to effectively lie against Prophet Muhammad . No Muslim will want to do that. Did I just open the door for the Quranist? That is not a concern because fault-finding and twisting the religion are the tools of the enemies of Islam. Of course, people must attend classes and educate themselves. Through that, you may be in a better position to quote hadith because you have some understanding of a particular hadith. The ulama, in turn, must themselves, advise the people from which hadith source or compilation he has taken the hadith. Then also mention its grading. The many victories from this include your attachment to hadith and refuting Quranists, and secondly, showing love for Prophet Muhammad by narrating his hadith.

Already, in pursuing this path, there is upliftment through this knowledge. The yearning to learn more will burn stronger in the sincere person. In quoting correctly from Prophet Muhammad and implementing this knowledge, then it shows love for him . The honour that his words have reached you and that you can convey the message is humbling. So, the main sources of knowledge is Quran and sunnah. On this path, you are following the straight line drawn in the sand.

The Line in the sand - Part 4

The Pope of the Roman Catholic Church has passed on. The first Jesuit Pope. At eighty-eight years old, it seems natural for someone to die seeming in good health just before then. Allah gives life and Allah takes life and, indeed, Allah knows best.

The line in the sand dictates that Muslims stick firmly to this line and avoid the deviating lines which has a satan at its head. So, what is deviation? What will save you? It is time to unlearn old things and learn the true knowledge. The world landscape is changing but Muslims have been dragged in so deep into this mischievous system, that is hard to see right from wrong. Muslims applaud other Muslims who have reached senior positions in many fields across the globe and spectrum. The applause many times because of blinkers. Career, title and position are important – or so you have been taught. Society, duped over generations, laud your achievements. Yet, here we are, a weak and divided ummah. So why have you studied and what are you contributing? Shall we join the dots and see that your achievements join the dots of the miscreants instead of breaking them? How did our education system – globally – come about? Is our education designed to suit those that have designs to oppress us? Are we currently oppressed? What is your understanding of oppression? There is work to be done to join the dots. Time is running out though, for you to save yourself and your family from the fire. At least, let us die on true eemaan and may we leave pristine Islam as our legacy to your offspring.

As for saying “rest in peace”, then that is not something that a Muslim says. What we say is that Allah shower the deceased with His mercy and grant him/her entrance into paradise. Who is eligible for paradise? It is in our speech and action that we follow Prophet Muhammad   as our teacher and example. Doing this is part of the rectification of ourselves and inclining to the obedience to Allah and His messenger, Muhammad . The bottom line is that our education and what flows from it, must be for the sake of Allah. Allah is the Provider, Nourisher and Sustainer and upon Him we depend. Let not the wealth be a rope around our necks, rather let it be our wings to paradise. The doctor or his medication does not cure, Allah cures. Hence let our dependence be on Allah and medicine only be the means. Shall I stop for now? Follow Prophet Muhammad and earn the love of Allah and who better to love you than Allah. Peace will descend upon you. Following other than this path will invite stress, fear and much misguidance. Every deviation from the straight path has a satan at its head. And deception is a key tool of satan.

Reflect. Unlearn and relearn. My aim is merely to remind and create some awareness. You must learn from reputable sources. Be constantly aware of that line in the sand that you stay on the path of guidance. Pray for me as I pray for you. I will endeavour to touch on the end times in another post at another time, if there is interest in-sha-Allah.

The line in the Sand - Part 2

Studying history, Islamic history, will outline, at least, the matters that deeply affect us today and how that came about. Belief, your eemaan (faith in Allah) is the most important blessing. The hadith says that a time will come when holding onto your faith will be like holding onto a hot coal (research the hadith, learn more about it and reflect upon it).

Perhaps it is an opportune time to reflect on the first lot of concerning matters. Allah tells us in Quran about a refrain of the disbelievers when they said words to the effect that they follow only what they found the fathers doing. They follow tradition or incorrect beliefs. So do you say “we always did it like this” or “I was taught this way”, rather than “what does Allah and His messenger say”. This issue does reflect on matters of belief because it means that with the right belief you will always strive to “obey Allah and His messenger ”. Tradition and culture is, of course, permissible, if it is in no way contradicting the pristine teachings of Islam. Upon reflection, one of the lessons that probably everybody can take from this is that you have to unlearn certain things. Your obedience to Allah and His messenger   is paramount. Many have spent twelve years or more at school and then at tertiary educational institutions. How much of that knowledge is sound and how much must be discarded? Take a moment to reflect. These posts will not do justice to the many changes you and I have to contemplate and make to unlearn, relearn and improve. The most important thing is to strive to do your utmost and learn to join the dots. That one dot of honey satan put on that sheet has tentacles and how many strayed since.

That brings us to a hadith which states that Prophet Muhammad drew a line in the sand and then drew other lines off it, warning us that at the head of every line (that deviated off the main line) is a satan. What else is of immediate concern to us, some of which look right but is in error? Dress-code, both male and female: how much do you imitate others, extravagance, calling yourself hijabi when indeed it does not conform to proper standard. Careers and jobs – which jobs are haram or working for which companies are prohibited? What about politics? What about allegiances? What about charity? What about social events?  And the list goes on.

This is about jihad-un-nafs (the struggle within yourself to correct yourself for Allah’s sake). How are we going to contribute to the rectification of the ummah when we are in need of correction ourselves? When then will the ummah be ready to take its rightful place as envoys of Allah on this earth? While you are busy rectifying yourself, you need to learn to join the dots and avoid a relapse because of satan’s and his cohorts’ incessant attempts to remove you from the obedience of Allah.

Blind following of Misguidance – Part 2

Blind following of Misguidance – Part 2

The scholarly and schoolboy approach can never be the same. The one has knowledge while the other is deluded, excited with the drop of knowledge.  For the latter, this becomes the reality. These types of people, even sometimes when they do carry some knowledge, gain followers like the Ahmadis and Qadianis. It is not impossible that these people build a following on lies and misguidance.

No matter whether the field is medicine, education or eschatology, etc, it can never trump aqeedah (belief). Belief is the most important aspect to have proper eemaan (faith). I say “proper”, but effectively if eemaan is defective, it may in fact, at times, be classified as disbelief. So, if you don’t apply yourself to understanding or accepting any or much of other fields of study, but only in as much as is needed for your aqeedah, then that will suffice. As for delving into these matters and creating the impression that that is aqeedah, then that is misguidance. Examples of how they place preference on their opinions on eschatology is that they believe that Gog and Magog have escaped and are amongst people already. Reading through the ahadith pertaining to this, the literal understanding is simple. This literal understanding is the view of every credible scholar that Gog and Magog will only appear after the time of Ad-dajjal (antichrist). Now this, the minute detail, is not a point of aqeedah but knowledge that it is real must be accepted because it is authentically reported in the hadith of Prophet Muhammad . Moreso, to create an opinion other than that of the entire scholarship and ummah is pushing the limits, to put it mildly. Of the arguments that these misguided people use to justify the release and presence, as it were, of Gog and Magog in our midst, is that the whole world has been discovered. So how can Gog and Magog still be hidden. This is an aqeedah issue because it is questioning whether Allah has the ability to hide any part  the world from prying eyes. This can be shown when these people have not looked at some archaeological findings in the recent years. These finding effectively show places undiscovered for thousands of years. Then also, in the recent past, the disappearance of flight MH371. Sure, there will be theories on the latter, but what about the archaeological findings. Indeed, a case of these people trying to force justification of their viewpoint when eschatology in Islam cannot clash with Aqeedah, except that you will be in error. The ghaib, the unseen, is the domain of Allah. He did not give us more detail than what has been authentically reported. Thus, any interpretation is subject to mere opinion which can be strutinised and rejected. On the matter of Gog and Magog, then the overwhelming view is that Gog and Magog must still appear.

After centuries of scholarship, one man decides that these people were and are all wrong. This brings us to the point of understanding how knowledge has been passed on from generation to generation, but we will leave that for some later date.  You head into dangerous territory when you then also just reinterpreting Quran on this basis. Know that no subject is important enough to endanger your eemaan.

Hadith

It was narrated from Abu Hurairah that the Messenger of Allah () said:

"Gog and Magog people dig every day until, when they can almost see the rays of the sun, the one in charge of them says: "Go back and we will dig it tomorrow." Then Allah puts it back, stronger than it was before. (This will continue) until, when their time has come, and Allah wants to send them against the people, they will dig until they can almost see the rays of the sun, then the one who is in charge of them will say: "Go back, and we will dig it tomorrow if Allah wills.' So they will say: "If Allah wills." Then they will come back to it and it will be as they left it. So they will dig and will come out to the people, and they will drink all the water. The people will fortify themselves against them in their fortresses. They will shoot their arrows towards the sky and they will come back with blood on them, and they will say: "We have defeated the people of earth and dominated the people of heaven." Then Allah will send a worm in the napes of their necks and will kill them thereby.'" The Messenger of Allah () said: "By the One in Whose Hand is my soul, the beasts of the earth will grow fat on their flesh."

Will Allah save Aqsa?

Every Friday, for a Muslim, is good Friday, because Friday is the best day of the week.  As for other connotations, then that is not from Islam and we say to those people who believe in this “to you your religion and to us, ours” and we leave them be. We continue to worship Allah, who neither begets, nor is begotten, and we worship Him in the manner that He legislated.

The talk of the red heifer is almost reaching a crescendo. However, that ritual in and of itself, has no meaning and no basis in Islam. What may concern us rather is what happens after the sacrifice of the unblemished red heifer. While the general understanding from Quran is that the Jews will enter Masjid-ul-Aqsa again, the question of its destruction is not necessarily implied by it. They will cause destruction as they have already done in Gaza. But will this destruction eventually include Al-Aqsa? The rulers in the Muslim world are “steadfast in their condemnation” of the brutality meted out to the Palestinians. As for action, that is not forthcoming. The masses are told to be patient and obey their rulers. Should the scenario become reality in the short-term where Aqsa is stormed by the Jews, who will defend Aqsa. Is it that perhaps Allah will save Aqsa, the first Qiblah of the Muslims, like He saved the Ka’bah from Abrahah* and the elephants? There is a tendency for people to interpret Quran to suit their argument. The same applies to weak hadith and sometimes even fabricated hadith. You will need to avoid this and avoid sensationalism. Of course, if you do this for acts of worship, then you will have deviated from the straight path. Some people are genuinely researching current affairs and will come across information which may lack credibility. These should be discarded, and you must be patient until information reaches you from a worthy source. Indeed, leadership and guidance are lacking. The least you should do is to incline yourself, your family and general lifestyle to that which please Allah. You cannot be concerned about a possible world war or just the dire situation in Palestine and not seek ways to draw closer to Allah. It is easy to march, but more difficult to boycott businesses and products while reforming yourself is far from easy. But what outcome do you want in all of this? And is paradise not your goal? You have been more than tapped on the shoulder as a reminder.

The matters in Palestine must be of concern. These are difficult times. The red heifer is big news. The intended actions thereafter will impact Muslims and possibly the world. What are we to do then?

*Abrahah is not to be confused with Abraham. He is Abrahah al-Ashram, the Ethiopian governor of Yemen.

The Soft Underbelly

Can you imagine what paradise is like? Do you take time out to imagine you being in paradise? To reach paradise you must die a worldly death to attain the everlasting pleasure of paradise. And what better death than being a martyr.

We are present in this holy month which witnessed the Battle of Badr but who of us would have been in the company of the Muslims during that battle, had we lived then? Of course, Allah designed and decreed that we live in this era, the here and now. We are armchair spectators to one of the worst, if not the worst, atrocity in the history of mankind. It is the life of today to be spectators. Everything around us creates the atmosphere for “viewing” and little about taking action. Islam has never been a religion of inaction and passiveness. Rather, Islam is built on faith and action. The bare minimum is to carry out the five pillars of Islam, viz. To bear testimony in the worship of Allah alone and that Prophet Muhammad is His final messenger. But your faith will never be complete unless you love for your Muslim brother what you love for yourself. Your faith will never be complete when his pain is not also your pain. So, when you see a wrong, you change it with your hands, and if you are unable, then with your speech and if you are unable, then with your heart (in prayer) but the latter is the weakest form of faith (as per the hadith of Prophet Muhammad )1. Of course, justice is not reserved for Muslims and Muslims are obligated to ensure justice for all.  There is always a group that are downright sell-outs and then there is the majority that believe battles are won with slogans, petitions and court-cases. Yes, we must speak out. Yes, we must make dua. But more than that we must act. The weakness in our words and prayers strongly suggest we must reform. Perhaps in our reformation to the pristine Islam taught by Prophet Muhammad and practised by the first three generations, we will be favoured with being part of the solution and victory. Victory is inevitable, it is just whether we are part of it.

Everybody is good at so many things, but not so good at proclaiming the religion of Allah, Islam. And not so good at making meaningful changes in their lives and to implement the changes which will augment the fight for justice and rid the world of evil and oppression.

1.      Abu Sa’id al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever among you sees evil, let him change it with his hand. If he cannot do so, then with his tongue. If he cannot do so, then with his heart, which is the weakest level of faith.” [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 49]
