The Help of Allah is near - Part 8

The Nearness of Allah and the State of the Ummah

The revelation of the Qur’an and the Prophethood of our beloved leader, Muhammad ﷺ, marks the completion of Allah’s favour upon us. There will be no new message, no fresh revelation. Whatever answers we seek already lie in what has been revealed. The key is our nearness to Allah — for true understanding of the deen comes only to those who draw close to Him. If our current condition is any indication, it shows just how far we’ve drifted from that nearness.

Today, Islam and Muslims are blamed for much of what happens in the world. We are made scapegoats through propaganda and the dumbing down of the masses. Yet, amidst all the noise, there remains a glimmer of hope — ordinary people around the world have shown humanity in their response to the genocide in Gaza. Not necessarily the leaders, but the people. It’s a sign that truth still finds its way to hearts.

Now, as the world turns its eyes to the so-called “peace proposals” for Gaza, we pray that the Palestinians are not capitulating, but preparing for their victory parade. But what about the rest of the Muslims? Where do we stand? The truth is painful — many of us are in a state of heedlessness. While Allah has perfected our religion, our failure to live by the Qur’an and Sunnah reflects our ingratitude for His guidance.

Allah reminds us in the Qur’an:

“When will the help of Allah come? Indeed, the help of Allah is near.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:214)

This verse speaks to the test of the believers. The help of Allah is near — but it is not given freely. It is tied to faith, patience, and a heart set on paradise. And that is where we have faltered. Too many of us live as if paradise is a distant dream, not our ultimate goal. The love of this world has overtaken our hearts, and our children are being raised in that same distraction.

Do we even understand this heedlessness? The occupiers of Palestine struggled to contain the Sumud Flotilla — imagine if we had doubled that number of boats! Yet our energy is spent chasing comfort and recognition, not striving for Allah’s pleasure. To enter paradise, we must love Allah, and for Allah to love us, we must follow the example of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The only way to do that is to seek — to ask at every turn: What does the Qur’an and Sunnah say about this?

The Palestinian struggle is not only about land; it reflects our own spiritual struggle. It shows how far we have turned away from the guidance of Allah. Still, there remain those who hold firmly to the rope of Allah — who seek His love, and through that, entry into paradise.

It is now our turn. Each of us must set our goal and return to Allah. Victory will surely come to the believers. The only question is: will we be part of that victory parade, or will we still be busy hustling for our share of this fleeting world?

Are you reading from the wrong script?

Reading from the wrong script invariably means that you will get your lines wrong. You will miss the point, and in an examination, your will lose marks. Leaders ought to get it right more often than wrong. Sadly, real leaders, guides and teachers are few and far between.

Reading from the wrong script means you will get your lines wrong. The system under which the world, in general, lives have shaped your thoughts and ideas through many avenues including the education and political systems. It is just over a century since the demise of the last caliphate, viz. the Ottoman caliphate. That it was allowed to fall, with help from the inside, and never yet been restored, tells a story. A painful story. While everyone is worried about the elections in various countries, including USA, the truth is that the outcome is the same. The outcome is the same no matter who wins because the elected officials are not beholden to the people, but to their masters who remain “anonymous”. Ultimately, everyone is answerable to Allah and your misdeeds will not go unnoticed, and neither will the misdeeds of each and everyone. Thus, they plan, but Allah too plans, and Allah is the best of planners. However, what He, Allah, has revealed as guidance is the true script and you will be fluffing your lines if you read from the wrong script. In previous blogs (see list below), the red heifers were mentioned. The time for their sacrifice draws every closer, it may be a matter of weeks. The Jews have their plans. Their expected result is to slaughter the heifer and then proceed to build the third temple on the site of Masjid-ul-Aqsa. The building of the temple is important for the appearance of their Messiah, Ad-dajjal, the Anti-Christ. Muslims and Christians await the return of Masih-ibn-Maryam, ‘Eesa, Yeshu (or in the apparent Romanised name “Jesus”). The Muslims expect the appearance of Al-Mahdi before the return of Yeshu (peace be upon him). Wait, lets get back to Al-Aqsa and the third temple. The world, including the Arabs and Muslims in general, except a few, have been spectators to the G.e-n-o-c- I – d – e  in the occupied territory. The question that may arise very soon, if it is not already in the minds of Muslims, their monarchs and presidents, is what will be the Muslim reaction if anyone dares to destroy Masjid-al-Aqsa.

Those who wish to learn and do the right thing should learn from the right script (Quran and hadith) and abandon their reliance on their “western” education and script. Only a few will hold onto the truth. Others will be “picky and choosy” or totally abandon the truth and fluff their lines. Learn, ask questions and discuss, only for the sake of Allah.

Final Wake up Call

Stop it  ---- stop it ----- stop it

Five red heifers were found in Texas, USA and taken to Jerusalem. At least one must be sacrificed. Why?  Before we answer that question, you also need to know that the heifer must be totally unblemished. There must not be even one hair which is maybe white.

If you read the last blog then you know that the idea was always to weaken Muslims and to sow division between them. Hajj is a major stumbling block for the enemies of Allah – another discussion on its own. As per these enemies indoctrination, Muslims have been clamouring for democracy which is a system foreign to Islam. Where did democracy originate? As for medicine, Allopathic or modern medicine is the antithesis of tibb-un-Nabawi (Prophetic Medicine). In terms of  justice, what about these great international organisations like the UN and it organs like the ICJ and ICC? Can one country really hold the world to ransom and use its veto against the demands of the entire world, against morality? How then do you struggle to join the dots, thinking that there is any good in the UN while its existence is one of evil. Is evil not the opposite of good? Victory of truth over evil is inevitable but what will your role be in this victory, while you are duped at every turn. Have a good look at the top of the US administration then you see a state that was captured a very long time ago. Likewise, every major organisation in the world has been established or captured by the same group of people. You can hardly drink bottled water or eat cereal without realising that you too have been captured. You have been funding the ge   no   cide. The last four years should still be fresh in your memory. If you don’t realise that you were duped into believing what came from the WHO and WEF because it is the same people who is bringing you the G eno cide. But they have done a good job in your “education” and right now South Africa is facing another bill that take away your rights, as parents, in educating your children or as caregivers and guardians of your children. You are failing and as such you will be doing a disservice to your children.

Oh yes, the red heifers. According to the Jews, once sacrificed, it will lead to the appearance of their messiah. There are some events in between – on that, another time. Suffice to say, that their messiah is Ad-dajjal, the antichrist. The point is that unless you wake up, you may end up liking the antichrist – may Allah guide and protect us all.

PS! There is no evidence yet that the red heifers are still unblemished and ready for slaughter. Importantly, Allah knows best when will the be the “hour”.  We merely try to join the dots.

Can you see the victory soon

It is common in ageing to experience physical weakness and perhaps an ailment or two. Weakness of memory is fairly common. Islam has been around for many a century, but it is not Islam that is showing the signs of ageing, especially weakness, but Muslims in general. Islam is the religion and way of life ordained by Allah, the All-Powerful, the All-wise.

The world is facing many a crisis and Muslims are entirely caught up in it. Yet, except for pockets of excellence, pockets of resistance against tyranny and a small group clinging steadfastly to Quran and Sunnah, Muslims are not the dynamic ummah they ought to be. The fi li steeni issue shows some form of unity of Muslims, but without any leadership. Delving a little deeper, then the singularity of purpose, “this brotherhood of yours is one brotherhood” is tested. Muslims must be bonded under the banner of the kalima “laa ilaaha illallah Muhammad-ur-rasoolullah” but Muslims continue to look for credibility, support and legitimacy from outside. Every issue of injustice is a Muslim issue for which the ummah needs to rise and rectify. Muslims, though, continue to shout slogans and invoke the assistance of other than Allah. The discussion, debates and arguments, on the issue of the Filisteeni, in Muslim circles reflect the level of the ummah. Years of indoctrination has paid off as Muslims can, at best, shout slogans. No longer do the enemy fear the Muslims because Allah is not placed uppermost in the approach. The history of ‘Aad, Thamud and Pharoah is either forgotten or there is total ignorance on the matter. While Muslims celebrate and commemorate so many things, if they were to commemorate anything, then certainly the Battle of Badr should be on top of the list. Was it not this battle before which Prophet Muhammad ﷺ pleaded with Allah for victory?

“O Allaah, grant me what You have promised me, O Allaah, give me what You have promised me. O Allaah, if this small band of Muslims perishes, You will not be worshipped on earth.” [Sahih Muslim]

Muslims have the solution and rightly claim to have it. Yet, what they have is in books while the understanding and execution of important solution are lacking. Concentrating on matters of numbers and size of gatherings without quality and wisdom is childish and lacks maturity. That people incline to such leadership is testament to their weakness. Had they stuck to the guidance of Allah, the All-Powerful, the All-Wise, then their faith will increase tremendously and be a part of the solution. The solution can entail physical involvement or supplication and pray, both fully immersed in the complete faith they have in Allah.

Does your tastebuds define your culture

A friend of mine separates the different food groups on his plate. After consuming it, these different food groups will end up in the same stomach. I guess for taste, there may be a need but then he does mix it on his fork or hand when he actually eats it. So, it reminds me of a discussion we had in a group last week. No, not about food, but racism.

Racism does not have to be taught consciously but the idea of superiority is something that may be in the culture of a family or a community. Sometimes racism is a subconscious personal choice. Listening to the discussion, you cannot deny that there is racism within the Muslim community. The one that is undeniable, yet some will dispute, is the racism from the apartheid days as we differentiate according to that racial classification. Then there was the deep-rooted racism which has, to a large degree, been overcome but what remains are more than mere remnants. While the colour card is rife, racism is further entrenched in ethnic backgrounds of the Muslim community. The Indian-Malay issue, as example, has made positive progress, but sadly today, there are individuals who scorn the other party and still use derogatory terms.

In terms of marriage, there may be argument that vastly different cultures can cause issues in marriage. However, there is no need to be prejudiced and act with a level of superiority. With that in mind, address the other party with respect and, in turn, build a culture of love and mutual understanding.  You can easily say that Muslims in Cape Town are not ready for “Bilal” to knock on your door and ask for your daughter’s hand in marriage. If you thrive on racism, then certainly you are gripped by much “ignorance”. Racism cannot be wished away but we must educate and change the mindset. When, you generalise and address matters with a racial bias, then you will not realise the best solution to issues that may face you.

Do you think your tastebuds reveals your ethnicity or do you train your tastebuds to adopt other cultures? By the way, like my friend separating his food groups and it still ends up in the same place, so too will we all, irrespective of ethnic background, end up in a hole when we die. Perhaps even in the same cemetery.

Easter eggs Mass Iftar

Samoosa sales dropped dramatically as the month of fasting, Ramadan, has ended. A thirty-hour old moon was clearly seen to end the month a day short of thirty days. While some are happy that the month is now behind us, there is also the need to reflect and build on the positives of this month. A few questions were raised regarding Muslim actions, its relevance or its misguidance. It is necessary to highlight these and correct wrongs, discuss matters that need further understanding.

The first point is not directly related to Ramadan but because this occurred in Ramadan, we will raise it anyway. The aspect of halal food is often a misunderstood concept. Most merely look for the stamp of a halal authority. The ingredients of a product may be halal, but there is another aspect to it. If food is dedicated to a god other than Allah, then that food becomes haram. Easter is one such period that has attached to it specific foods of which easter eggs and hot cross buns are common. Easter is related to pagan beliefs. However, Christians have adopted this period as the time of the crucifixion of Jesus (Eesa peace be upon him). Whether you dismiss the pagan aspect, then the Christian view too is contrary to Quran and thus Islam. To partake in foods relating to events that are against what Allah has revealed, then that is to transgress the word of Allah. The same goes for engaging in any of their, the Christians, affairs regarding Easter, whether it is verbal or otherwise. We remain quiet and understand that to them their religion and to us ours. Jesus – peace be upon him – was not crucified and he did not die for our sins. Jesus – peace be upon him – is not god or the son of god, but he was raised to the heavens as per Quran. We leave them to worship as they please and we worship according to the dictates of Quran and sunnah.

Talking about food, the mass iftars are becoming a thing. There are instances where desperately poor people are fed and then there are any other excuse to get together, including the interfaith iftars. Fasting is sacred and everything attached to it is sacred. The time before Maghrib (the prayer at sunset) is sacred and doubly so for the fasting person. How do you spend our time then other than supplicating to Him, Allah. Where is the sunnah in hastening to break your fast and hastening to establish the Maghrib prayer? Is it not time that you return and be firm on the sunnah? Are there not eleven months of the year to invite people to share a meal? Or if you really believe in feeding the fasting person, why not just do it at the masjid while following the sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ?

As for tarawih. Those that are not able to recite the Quran in full in one month, were you attending tarawih to get the blessing of Quran?

Lastly, I hope the only scale that benefited in increase in weight is our scale of good deeds – an I definitely talking to myself first on this one. Yaa Allah, accept our fasting and all our acts of worship in the month of Ramadan (Ramadan without the “l” )

These are just what is observed and encountered. We all will want to do better and if this message can at least make you consider the points raised. Guidance is only from Allah. Allah guide and protect us all.

Suicide at the Cape

The ticking clock will one day cease to add that one last tick. And so too will your heartbeat come to an end. But by time, man is lost. Running around, mostly in delusion and confusion. What will make you realise that these are ingredients for disaster? It can possibly be a disaster for you alone or it may have bigger, more intense, consequences.

Suicide is a notable concern in our community, albeit not as pronounced as in society at large. Allow me to digress, for a moment, to glance at the Muslim community from Cape Town. You will get so many varied responses to the question of what people, Muslim people, see when they look at Muslims and Islam in Cape Town. In these answers, you find the level of faith, level of intellect and level of education, both Islamic and otherwise, displayed. In short, it is the determining factor for where we find ourselves collectively and it is our scorecard. Suicide is a double-edged sword. It is a sensitive topic and best not to delve in too deeply on a mere blog. Those unaffected will not really get to understand while those affected have the opportunity to channel those emotions and experiences into positivity. Positivity to help themselves by improving their own lives. Positivity to encourage others to explore and adopt solutions that will benefit them overall.

When addressing the issue, be reminded that the Muslim community should not be judged, by themselves or others, as an exemplary society. The answers to a cursory glance of Muslim at the Cape will confirm that. To be blunt, there is much good at the Cape, but you will struggle with real solutions if you think it as exemplary. You must be prepared to change much of your thoughts, ideas and academic knowledge. You grew up here, and evolved every bit here, as part of this community and as such raised by this community. A community that also imported and inculcated everything, or nearly everything, that it was given. A community that had the opportunity to be exemplary, was really following. Today the topic is suicide, and everyone looks at the physical death of a person. The solution is beyond that view. Now, to start the journey to the real solution, ask too about those who live amongst us but are spiritually dead. Look at those who live mechanically only, but the heart does not beat with “Laa ilaaha illallah” – There is no God to worship but Allah. Then look at a solution from that point of view – the view of Laa ilaaha illallah. Unlearn the concepts from the academia, from society, from the “norm” and adopt solutions based on the kalimah (testimony of faith).

The system under which you live is a constraint and itself a noose around your neck. The system of Allah is the system that is all-encompassing.

And another person is buried and you don't know the unwritten inscription the tombstone.
